With previous experience working with words as a journalist and affection on drawing, Carmen loves exploring the relationship between words and illustration through printmaking, experimental illustration and self-publishing. Visual poetry is Carmen’s main practice, which incorporates text, graphic and visual design elements to convey its meaning that mainly focuses on sensory. Through visual poetry, Carmen connects memories and perception with words and images to tell the ineffable moments in life. With passion on printmaking and hand-making, Carmen is keen on exploring different methods of printmaking. Monoprint is Carmen’s favorite among all because every print is unique which responds to the nature of memories and feeling. Main theme of her works is exploring the relationship between memories, cities and self. The project seeks to investigate how cities influence the formation of memories and emotions, and how these, in turn, shape the perception of one's identity. The work is created based on exploring locations by walking, examining the specific effects of the geographical environment on an individual's emotions and behaviour. I noticed that people on Argyll street keep moving, they don’t stop. The street connects Oxford street and Liberty, so,&nbsp; "transit" seems to be the main function of this street. Transparent tracing paper is used because I would like to create overlapping images. It can refer to the overlapping of people's "orbit" of their walking and always respond to the messiness of the street. Also, it represents different human activities that are happening at the same time in the same space. The format of the snake book is chosen because it can respond to the idea of roads. When the audience is reading, they can follow the direction of the road which brings them into the work more and feel the journey in a better way. Also, letterpress is used to create the words because it has a leave-over effect, which can be seen as a sign of walking.
